My biggest problem as a musician is really honing my artistry. Again, since I love so many different kinds of music, it can be difficult for me to strip away some of that influence for a while just to focus on one sound for an extended period of time.
Try to create a space that is free from distractions, especially if you’re easily susceptible to checking social media during down times, like when a session is saving. One way to do this is to just be diligent about taking periodic breaks and working towards a goal before you get to your break. Another way is to shut your wifi off and put your phone on airplane mode when you’re in your home studio.
Simply insert a de-esser on your vocal channel and sweep through the frequencies in “listen” mode to find what’s causing the problem, then increase the threshold until the sibilance is squashed.

“Drip Too Hard”: They double the choruses and end the second verse with some title/refrain stuff. Hey, you know, one trend that I’d like to call cemented this year is that song form is becoming more and more lyric based. As songs are increasingly built around one single loop phrase, you have to base their form off of something, so it might as well be words. Because it used to be that the chorus, verse, and bridge would all have different chord changes, which would help determine the form. That’s just no longer so.
Every time the cycle repeats, that low E root is right there to support that downbeat. Notice that it doesn’t have to hit every downbeat of the pattern, but it must hit on that repeated downbeat at the start of the cycle. Funky bass lines emphasize beat one and lay a solid rhythmic foundation.

Some specific stops along the way include utilizing advanced harmony, rhythm, and bass; the difference between songs and productions; how successful songs are structured; creative strategies that you can apply to your own music; and how to revamp your workflow to emphasize the song’s emotive power and listenability.
The 808 might be the only real indication of the harmony for the track, so it’s important that it feels solid. If there are chords, stick to roots, and at most try fifths and octaves.

Okay, when songs like this sound so chill and happy, it’s hard to notice they’re actually in minor at first. Could it maybe be the ninth chords? I mean, these chords are thick right from the get-go, so for type names I’m gonna have to go by the bass notes and piano chunks to make i iiº ♭III ♭VI v —, and then also a V after that iiº. But again, there are so many sevenths, ninths, and elevenths boo’d up here combined with the fizzy timbre of the synth that it’s hard to tell what exactly to call all these exotic ice cream flavors.

How much does the general public really pay attention to bass riffs? I’m not talking about songs in which the bass has the main hook, like Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust” or Lou Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side” where the bass is technically the lead instrument, nor am I talking about every disco hit ever. How much do people really take the time to hear through what’s going on in the rest of the mix to find what the bass is doing?
